The book I read was The Fire by James Patterson and Jill Dembowski. This book is 352 pages long. Another book by James Patterson is Jack & Jill, the third installment in the Alex Cross series. I love this book because it assumes that you had read the other books in the series and gets straight into the action.
<SPOILER ALERT>
READ THE FIRST AND SECOND BOOK BEFORE READING THIS ONE!!!!
Wisty and Whit have finally reunited (they don’t have a backstory for how they reunited) and now Wisty is sick with the blood plague, the newest punishment from The One Who Is The One. Whit finds a girl who will care for Wisty in her home, and follows her. He quickly finds out that they are some of the few that still celebrate the forbidden holidays in their home. He quickly finds himself a job by cutting down wood for the fire and for the tree. He has a close encounter with other villagers that burned a kid they suspected of being a witch, but he chased them off quickly. Once he comes back, the family that he’s been staying with tell him of their missing family member. Then, they light the candles for the people who have passed away. Then, Pearl Marie (the girl) and Whit try and expel the plague from Wisty by having Whit’s powers channeled into Pearl Marie and using that new power to cure Wisty. After Wisty is cured, Pearl Marie’s family gets shot and arrested *croaking* Yaayyy! Now, Wisty and Whit promise to go back to save her, but they think it’s an impossible task. They then go to Mrs. Highsmith, an old friend of their parents, and find their parents in the Shadowland through a magic ball. Their parents tell them not to come, but they still defy their orders and leave for it. Wisty and Whit part ways, with Wisty going to take down The One, and Whit going to save their parents. Wisty takes up a job as a student at The One’s academy, and finds some interesting things in his room. Then she takes up a battle, but runs away to a portal shortly after. Meanwhile, Whit finds the group again after accidentally leaving them in the desert. Now, it’s a happy reunion as they’re about to be eaten by Lost Ones. Then, Celia and her half-light friends come in and save the day! Back to Wisty. Now that she’s gone through the portal, she is relatively safe because Straight and Narrows can’t go through the portals. Then, Pearce comes and tackles Wisty from behind. Whit realizes that Wisty is here and runs to her. Together, they beat Pearce. Finally, The One is upon them. Will they be able to take on The One with their combined power? Or will it be too little matched up to The One’s? Find out, in The Fire by James Patterson and Jill Dembowski!
